Carnot Institutes

For the past four years, the Government has given the "Carnot Institute" label to laboratories or public institutions with proactive policies on research in partnership with industry. There are 34 of them in France. Seven of them are linked to members of the Campus.

  • LIST : The CEA's Laboratoire d’intégration des systèmes et des technologies (Laboratory for the Integration of Systems and Technologies), which has 450 full-time staff, works on software systems (interactive systems, on-board systems, sensors, and signal processing). LIST conducts its research in partnership with major industrial actors in the nuclear, automotive, aeronautics, defence, and medical industries to study and develop innovative solutions adapted to their needs.
  • The Institut d’Optique (Optical Institute) Graduate School : This Institute works in optics, especially through its IOTech Engineering platform. Housed in the Department of Business Relations at the Institut d'Optique, this structure proposes studies that can be conducted by its engineers to benefit the institute's environment.
  • ONERA-ISA : With a partial presence on the Campus, the Institut de l’ingénierie des systèmes aérospatiaux (Aerospace Systems Engineering Institute) brings together the skills of the ONERA that are needed to design the aerospace platforms of the future. In particular, it works on engineering, measurement, and simulation in various areas such as aerodynamics, energetics, acoustics, systems control, and materials.
  • The Institut Télécom: It is a major European research and innovation actor in information and communication sciences and technologies (ranging from networks, digital communication, and optics to economics, management, and usage of information and communication technologies).
  • MINES (Méthodes innovantes pour l’entreprise et la société - Innovative Methods for Business and Society). With 950 full-time staff, this institute is linked with the MINES Paristech Graduate School. It works in various engineering areas, in particular energy and sustainable development, natural resources, security, transport, health, matter transformation, and information technology.
  • The objective of 3BCAR (Bioénergies, Biomolécules et Biomatériaux du Carbone Renouvelable - Bioenergy, Biomolecules, and Biomaterials from Renewable Carbon) is to offer an integrated set of skills to help develop green chemistry based on renewable carbon. Its goal is to dynamise innovation by creating value in "carbon neutral products and services” (which is to say, where carbon inputs and outputs cancel each other out), by selecting clean and safe processes and renewable raw materials.
  • Curie-Cancer attempts to bring together all of the links that an academic partner can offer an industrial desiring to collaborate to create and develop cancer treatments: Cellular biology, genetics, medicinal chemistry, not to forget bioinformatics, physics, and mathematics (without which the data generated by the laboratories would be unusable), a bio-bank of tumours sampled from the operating unit, animal models, imaging, and clinical trials.
