Sports
The development of the Saclay campus will lead to a significant increase in the number of students and staff present on site. First of all, this means the arrival of seven institutions in Saclay (plus the Pharmacy Department). The primary impact will be on the Palaiseau and Moulon neighbourhoods.
This change will be accompanied by an increase in the number of people using sports facilities, both due to the increase in numbers and because sports activity should increase, giving the Paris-Saclay Campus an identifying characteristic, adding value to its environment. This is also an opportunity to reconsider the entire system and to offer students and staff better access to sports, especially by taking advantage of the possibility for diversification offered by such a mass of users (weight rooms, complexes, martial arts, equestrian club, etc.). Therefore, the SUAPS (Service Universitaire des Activités Physiques et Sportives - University Physical Activities and Sports Department) can be a "sports" plus for the 27,000 students and 4,850 staff at the University. It offers a degree program through the sports unit and contributes to student life through leisure sports and university-level competition.
This ambitious objective will be achieved by sharing and optimising facilities. A first expression of needs was delivered by the "sports facilities" working group that brought together the sports directors for each unit, and requires investments of several tens of millions of euros.
The sports facilities will give priority to all students, both in Le Moulon and in Palaiseau, then to employees, and at time windows to be defined as part of new partnerships still being developed, and to neighbouring populations during daily time windows or on weekends.
